Many people who have just bought Toronto lofts end up looking around their empty new place and discovering that they're totally at a loss as to how to decorate it. They don't have any idea of color or style or pattern. How can they possibly choose decor? You may think that you don't have a personal style, but everyone does. It may be that you simply need a little help discovering it. The following exercises can help you uncover your hidden design preferences.
Color
It can be overwhelming to look at an entire room and decide whether or not you like it, so the best idea is to start small. Visit the paint section of your local hardware or home store and check out the selection of swatches. Look at them without considering how the colors will look on the walls of your Paris, Ontario real estate. Simply note which ones you are drawn to. Is your eye naturally attracted to the bright blue? Do you find yourself reaching for an earthy brown? Collect several dozen colors you like. Now look for patterns among them. Are they neutral? Pastel? Bright? This will tell you your color preference.
Pattern
To discover what patterns you would prefer to use in your Halton real estate, visit a fabric store. Fabric stores contain bolts of patterned materials ranging from solid waffle weaves to cartoon patterned flannels. Browse the store and select about a dozen fabrics that appeal to you visually and tactilely. Set them together and what do you see? Are you a fan of softness? Do you like loose weaves? Are complicated patterns what draw your eye? This is your pattern style.
Material
Kitchener, Waterloo real estate listings contain homes where the fixtures are made of a variety of materials, so it helps to know what your favorites are. Go to various sections of a home building store and rank your top three materials. Do you like grey stone exteriors? Chrome finished light fixtures? Laquered hardwood floors? Once you have visited each section, you'll know what materials you'd prefer your interiors and exteriors to be made of.
Style
Putting all of your newfound preferences together will generally not make a coherent style appropriate for an Edmonton salon spa, but they will provide a building block. Now you can look at complete styles and tell why you like one over another. Check out home décor magazines or watch decorating shows. Which rooms do you like and why? Do you like the traditional style because of its soft curves? The modern because of its clean feel? Choose several styles you like and build your interior using pleasing combinations of your discovered preferences. This is a trial and error process, so be patient. The results are worth it!
