The people of Austin pride themselves in being eccentric and different. "Keep Austin Weird" is considered to be the local motto, as it not only represents Austin's diversity, but also meant to boost the support of the local and independent businesses.

The main daily newspaper is the Austin American-Statesman, while The Austin Chronicle is sent out weekly, and the University of Texas publishes the student paper The Daily Texan.
